| After 25 years of searching the globe, we
have finally moved to Panama. In the
summer of 2005 I engaged 3000 hours of construction labor to improve our new
home. With a team of ten construction workers, I installed an in-ground
ceramic swimming pool (15'x22'), erected about 300 feet of 6 foot high cement walls, added a fancy
new front gate, significantly improved the electrical and plumbing systems, expanded
the "casita and completed many other maintenance tasks.
Total cost about $15,000. Just the
labor in New Jersey would have cost me more than $120,000.
In late 2006 and early 2007 I hired
a crew of 8 workers to further renovate our house and to construct 4
guest houses.
Furnished House
The original house
was fully
furnished from dishes to high quality sheets, blankets,
eiderdowns, pillows etc. There is one queen size bed in the master bedroom with a very large full bathroom
plus bidet even.
A second
bedroom has a two storey "bunk" bed with one single and one double mattress for the kids. The other two bedrooms
each have two single (one meter wide .. about 40 inches) beds.
The property includes a mature papaya mango tree. There are five coconut
palm trees in the back "orchard" beyond the arched gate for your Thai
dishes.
For comparison purposes, a 450 square
foot two bedroom hotel suite at the Coronado Country Club, just next door to the
house, in high season,
rents for $300 per day without maid service and $350 per day with service. In
low season it is $200 per day unless you rent by the month.
Below are a few pictures of our house with Lise in the pool.
The arched gate at the back leads to our private
orchard (about 5000 square feet) which in turn backs onto the 18 hole Coronado County Club. The "Club" has four excellent restaurants.
